In a recent development, Special Counsel David Weiss has dismissed claims made by Hunter Biden's legal team regarding the authenticity of his laptop as a "conspiracy theory."

Weiss confirmed in a court filing on Wednesday that the laptop, which was initially reported by the New York Post and later alleged by former intelligence officials to bear the signs of a "Russian information operation," will be introduced as evidence in the trial. Weiss stated that the laptop "contains significant evidence of the defendant's guilt."

Biden's legal team had earlier argued in a Monday filing that multiple media outlets, after hiring forensic experts to verify the authenticity of the data on the laptop, had concluded that it was not genuine. They further suggested that the evidence "may have been tampered with by someone other than Mr. Biden." However, the Daily Caller News Foundation had authenticated an email from the laptop back in 2020.

Weiss' team countered these claims, stating that "the defendant has had the laptop data in its raw, original form since September 2023, but has provided the government with no evidence of its manipulation or alteration." They further asserted that Biden had not provided any proof that his laptop contained false information. On the contrary, the government's evidence indicated that "the defendant's laptop is real" and contained substantial evidence of Biden's guilt.

Biden, who was indicted on three felony gun charges in September 2023, is scheduled to stand trial on June 3 in Wilmington, Delaware. The court filing further stated that Biden had not demonstrated any of the actual evidence in the case to be unreliable or inauthentic.

The document also detailed the chain of custody for the evidence, which was extracted by an FBI forensic specialist in 2019, rather than the copy of the data obtained by the media from the Delaware computer repair shop owner John Paul Mac Isaac in 2020. Weiss dismissed the claims made by Biden's attorneys that "a Russian businessman told a third-party that Biden's devices were compromised" in 2014 as "without foundation."

Weiss stated, "This is yet another example of the defendant asking people to believe Russian intelligence when it suits his interests, but not to believe Russian intelligence when it doesn’t suit his interests." He further added that none of the "hearsay on hearsay" was evidence, and it did not demonstrate that the actual trial evidence had been altered.

The filing also noted that many of the messages prosecutors plan to introduce as evidence were obtained from other sources, including iCloud data from Biden's iPad and iPhone, which was directly obtained from Apple.

In a Monday filing, prosecutors revealed messages they intend to introduce to substantiate their claim that Hunter Biden lied about his drug usage on a federal gun purchase form. One such message dated October 14, 2018, has Biden stating, "I was sleeping on a car smoking crack on 4th street and Rodney."
