Top Republican, Michael McCaul, has issued a stern warning to Jen Psaki, former press secretary to President Joe Biden, threatening to subpoena her for her alleged evasion of a congressional investigation and for purportedly misleading the public in her new book about the President's controversial withdrawal from Afghanistan.

McCaul, who heads the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been leading an ongoing investigation into the chaotic exit from Afghanistan, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 13 American troops and 170 Afghan civilians, and left 45 service members injured. In a letter to Psaki's legal team, obtained by DailyMail.com, McCaul expressed his frustration at Psaki's 'deliberate noncompliance' with his investigation.

"It is troubling that Ms. Psaki seeks to profit off the Afghanistan tragedy, and has felt comfortable writing accounts and making them available to the general public, but refuses to make herself available to Congress," McCaul wrote in his letter.

Psaki's book has sparked outrage among the families of the 13 American troops who were killed during the suicide bombing attack in Kabul, Afghanistan. In her book, Psaki claimed that reports of President Biden checking his watch during the dignified transfer ceremony for the fallen troops at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware were 'misinformation.' This assertion has been met with vehement opposition from several family members of the deceased troops, many of whom personally witnessed the incident.

In an exclusive statement to DailyMail.com, the families said, "We watched in horror as President Biden looked at his wristwatch on multiple occasions during the dignified transfer of our children in Dover." They added, "Jen Psaki’s claim in her book that this was 'misinformation' is not only dishonest but reinforces the contempt which Biden Administration officials have shown us in the aftermath of Abbey Gate terrorist attack that took the lives of our children."

McCaul's letter emphasizes Psaki's significant role in the withdrawal process, as she was responsible for communicating the developments to the American public. He also suggests that she has 'key insights into the planning and decision-making' related to the Taliban takeover and the evacuation of American citizens and Afghan allies.

"Ms. Psaki unfortunately advanced narratives regarding the withdrawal and evacuation that my investigation has proven untrue," McCaul wrote. He has proposed three dates for Psaki to sit for a transcribed interview with his committee, warning that if she fails to comply, a congressional subpoena may be issued to compel her testimony.

The Gold Star families have also called on Psaki’s book publisher, Simon & Schuster, and her employer, MSNBC, to address the inaccuracies. "We are calling on Simon & Schuster and MSNBC to hold Ms. Psaki accountable for publishing this dishonest attack on Gold Star families," they concluded.

Psaki has since admitted to Axios that she will update the digital copy of her book and correct the mistake in future printings. However, this has done little to quell the anger of the families, who have been joined in their condemnation of Psaki by former Green Beret Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla.

"Calling Gold Star families liars - even when there’s photographic proof - is a pathetic partisan attempt to defend your boss and a bad look," Waltz wrote on social media. The controversy surrounding Psaki's book and her alleged evasion of the congressional investigation continues to unfold, with the potential for a subpoena looming over the former press secretary.
