Jacob Helberg, a senior advisor at Palantir and the head of the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, has made a significant shift in his political allegiance.

Once a supporter of Democratic campaigns, Helberg has now donated $1 million to Donald Trump, a move that propels him into the top tier of the former president's donors.

Helberg, who was previously involved in fundraising for Democrat Pete Buttigieg's unsuccessful presidential campaign, has cited several reasons for his change in political stance. Among these are the ongoing pandemic, the escalating artificial intelligence competition with China, and his personal campaign to ban TikTok in the United States.

According to The Washington Post, Helberg's generous donation comes at a time when Trump's campaign is financially lagging behind President Biden's. Despite this, Helberg is among a small yet influential group of tech leaders who have chosen to support Trump, despite the tech industry's general aversion to the former president.

The majority of Helberg's contribution, amounting to $844,600, was directed to the Trump 47 joint fundraising committee. As of the end of March, at least 20 donors had given the maximum donation of over $800,000 to the Trump 47 committee, as per the latest reports from the Federal Election Commission. Trump has been encouraging more donors to join this exclusive group, with Helberg being the only known maximum donor from the tech industry.

However, it seems that President Biden's perceived lack of support for Israel was the final straw that drove Helberg towards Trump and the Republican Party. Following the news of his donation, Helberg posted on the X platform, stating, "This one's for Israel."

Despite the apparent shift in attitude towards Trump among some tech industry figures, Silicon Valley remains largely hostile towards conservatives and the Republican Party. The only other major industry figure known to have supported Trump is PayPal founder Peter Thiel, who has also funded various legislative campaigns.

Notably, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has emerged as a staunch opponent of the far-left progressive agenda. However, Musk has consistently expressed doubt about Trump and recently indicated that he would not be contributing to his 2024 campaign.
