In a recent development, the Los Angeles District Attorney's office has declared its inability to prosecute renowned rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs over an alleged assault on Cassie Ventura that took place in 2016.

The incident, captured on video, occurred at a hotel in California.

District Attorney George Gascón stated, "The conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted." This statement, made via an Instagram post, refers to the statute of limitations in California, which is one year for simple assault and three years for felony assault.

The video in question, initially procured by CNN, portrays Combs in March 2016 physically assaulting Ventura, his then-girlfriend. The footage shows Combs grabbing Ventura by the neck, throwing her onto the floor, and subsequently kicking her multiple times.

The District Attorney's office further stated, "As of today, law enforcement has not presented a case related to the attack depicted in the video against Mr. Combs, but we encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to our office for support from our Bureau of Victims Services."

Ventura, in November of last year, filed a civil lawsuit against Combs. She alleged that he paid the InterContinental Hotel in Century City $50,000 for the video footage of the assault. The lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount a day after Ventura filed it.

Ventura's lawyer responded to the video, stating, "The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light."
