In a recent meeting of the Kentucky Senate Standing Committee on the Judiciary, a controversial topic was brought to the table - a bill proposing to criminalize the possession or trafficking of child sex dolls.

The bill, known as House Bill 207, has already passed the House with a unanimous vote of 93-0 and has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. It now awaits a final decision from the Senate.

During the discussion, State Senator Karen Berg voiced a contentious perspective, arguing that these dolls could potentially serve as a deterrent for pedophiles. "I was completely unfamiliar with child sex dolls, so I had, of course, to Google it last night," Berg admitted. "I was scared to put it in my search engine, but I did, and apparently, there is research on the subject, not much."

She continued, "But there are what they call MAPs, minor-attracted persons. And the limited amount of research that’s been done on these dolls, guys, suggests that they actually, for people who are attracted to minors, that these dolls actually decrease their proclivity to go out and attack children."

Berg further elaborated that the research indicated these dolls might provide a form of release for pedophiles, reducing their likelihood of acting on their impulses. "That it actually gives them a release that makes them less likely to go outside of their home. And what was interesting is the research did not support the same conclusions who were adult attracted using dolls, that did not diminish their proclivity to engage other people."

House Bill 207 seeks to classify the ownership or sale of child sex dolls as a felony. The bill defines these dolls as "an anatomically correct or anatomically precise doll, mannequin, or robot that may consist of an entire body, pelvis, or any other body part, with features of, or with features that resemble, those of a minor intended for use in sexual acts."

In addition to this, the bill also aims to criminalize the use of artificial intelligence in creating depictions of child pornography, whether through computer-generated images or using real images as a base. As the Senate prepares to vote, the debate continues, with the potential implications of the bill's passage stirring intense discussion.
