In a recent development, Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, James Comer, has announced that the impeachment inquiry against President Biden will progress to its "next phase," which includes a public hearing featuring Hunter Biden, the President's son.

However, Hunter Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, cast a shadow of doubt over this announcement. In a statement released late Wednesday, Lowell said, "The transcripts of witnesses who have been called to date, including Hunter’s, makes it obvious that there is nothing left to ask, answer, say or do. This illegitimate inquiry should have ended long before their star witness was indicted for lying but it wasn’t. Now that Hunter has put this partisan conspiracy to the lie that it is - on the record and under oath - this political charade should finally come to an end."

Hunter Biden had previously appeared on Capitol Hill for a closed-door deposition at the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on Wednesday. During his testimony, he vehemently denied involving his father in his business affairs and criticized House Republicans for their "partisan political pursuit" and impeachment inquiry against his father. He further stated that Republicans have no evidence against his father, the President, "because there isn't any."

Following the deposition, Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, publicly stated that Hunter’s appearance "was a great deposition for us." However, Hunter Biden himself also seemed to believe the deposition went well for him, telling reporters on his way out of the hearing room that the hearing went "great."

A source with direct knowledge of the deposition disclosed to Fox News Digital that Hunter Biden "first made clear in his opening statement and emphasized throughout the deposition, Joe Biden was not involved in, did not benefit from, and took no official actions to benefit any of his business ventures."

The source also revealed that Hunter Biden discussed his addiction at length and admitted to being under the influence when he sent a message to a business partner for Chinese energy firm CEFC, stating that he was sitting with his father. He clarified that his father "was not sitting next to him."

Comer, however, stated after the deposition that "it proves several bits of our evidence that we've been conducting throughout this investigation." He added that "there are also some contradictory statements that I think need further review."

Comer emphasized that Hunter Biden and his attorney have "demanded" a public hearing following the deposition. He said, "Just as I said, when we said we were going to do the deposition first, we will have a public hearing next. So I think that the public hearing hopefully will clear up some discrepancies between some of the statements that were made between some of the associates and what we heard today."

Indeed, Lowell had previously stated in November 2023, "Hunter is eager to have the opportunity, in a public forum and at the right time, to discuss these matters with the Committee."

Comer expressed optimism and excitement about the deposition, stating, "I look forward to releasing the transcripts as soon as both sides agree to that." He hinted that the first son’s transcript of his deposition could be released to the public by the end of the week.

During his opening statement, Hunter Biden testified that he was present "to provide the Committees with the one uncontestable fact that should end the false premise of this inquiry: I did not involve my father in my business."

The first son expressed hope that his testimony will "put an end to this baseless and destructive political charade." He criticized the committee for wasting valuable time and resources attacking him and his family for their own political gain instead of addressing the real problems in the country.

Hunter Biden's testimony follows that of his uncle, James Biden, who testified last week as part of the impeachment inquiry. James Biden testified that President Biden "has never had any involvement or any direct or indirect financial interest" in his business ventures.

House Republicans have heard testimony from several of the first son's former business associates, who have claimed that Joe Biden was involved in the family's business ventures. However, House Democrats and the White House have criticized the inquiry as baseless, while Republicans insist they have just scratched the surface of the investigation into Biden family businesses.
