In a recent interview with Seth Meyers, host of "Late Night," President Joe Biden dismissed concerns about his age and took the opportunity to criticize his predecessor, Donald Trump.

Meyers initiated the conversation by humorously referencing Special Counsel Robert Hur's report, which stated that Biden is currently 81 years old. He then asked the President how he plans to address the concerns of American voters regarding his age as the 2024 election approaches.

Biden responded by comparing himself to Trump, stating, "Number one, you gotta take a look at the other guy. He's about as old as I am but he can't remember his wife's name." This comment was met with applause from the audience.

Biden further argued that the age of one's ideas is more important than physical age. He criticized Trump's conservative stance on issues such as Roe v. Wade, saying, "Look, this is a guy who wants to take us back. He wants to take us [back] on Roe v. Wade. He wants to take us back on a whole range of issues that are 50, 60 years they've been solid American positions."

Biden also highlighted the achievements of his administration and warned of the potential consequences of Trump returning to the White House. However, he stopped short of elaborating on his views about Trump's vision for America.

Biden's age and mental acuity have been significant concerns in the lead-up to his re-election campaign. Polls indicate that a majority of Americans, including Democrats, believe he is too old to seek another term. These concerns were amplified following the release of Hur's report, which revealed that Biden could not recall key details about his life, such as his tenure as vice president and the year his son Beau passed away.

The report also concluded that Hur could not charge Biden for his "willful" possession of classified documents, partly because a jury would likely perceive him as a "sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory."

The political repercussions were immediate. During a last-minute primetime news conference, Biden reacted sharply to reporters from CNN and The Washington Post who questioned him about his age. His credibility was further undermined when he confused the presidents of Mexico and Egypt while discussing the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Despite these concerns, many of Biden's Democratic allies maintain that he is capable of serving another term. However, veteran strategists such as David Axelrod, Paul Begala, and James Carville have expressed concern about the recent developments. Some media outlets, including The New York Times, have suggested that Biden should step down and allow the Democrats to nominate a different candidate at the upcoming DNC convention.
