Former Republican New York Representative George Santos has taken legal action against late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and the Walt Disney Company, seeking $750,000 in damages for alleged copyright infringement and fraud, as reported by the Associated Press.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, accuses Kimmel and the entities of deceptive practices. Santos claims that Kimmel misled him into creating videos that were subsequently used to ridicule him on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, the AP disclosed.

According to the complaint, Kimmel purportedly obtained personalized Cameo videos from Santos under false pretenses, using them in a segment called “Will Santos Say It?” on his show in December 2023. The lawsuit alleges that Kimmel employed fake identities and scenarios to elicit these videos, with five of them being broadcast on air, including one where Santos praised a meat-eating contest winner for consuming six pounds of ground beef in under 30 minutes.

Attorney Robert Fantone, representing Santos, condemned Kimmel’s actions, stating, “Frankly, Kimmel’s fake requests were funny, but what he did was a clear violation of copyright law.”

Santos, who was ousted from Congress in a 311-114 vote on December 1, 2023, faced criticism from some Republicans who argued that his expulsion was premature, given the absence of a criminal conviction. The special election to fill his seat was won by former Democratic Representative Tom Suozzi, defeating Republican candidate Mazi Melisa Pilip.
