Oberlin College, Ohio, is currently under scrutiny by the Department of Education due to allegations of anti-Israel sentiments and discrimination against Jewish students.

One individual under investigation is Professor Mohammad Jafer Mahallati, an Iranian citizen who holds the title of "professor of peace." Mahallati has been known to openly support Hamas and has called for the eradication of Israel. He has also previously expressed support for the Islamic fatwa against Salman Rushdie.

Despite these controversial views, Mahallati remained at Oberlin until a separate investigation revealed his involvement in a "sex for grades" scandal at Columbia University, leading to his suspension.

Mahallati, who has been accused of promoting support for Hamas in his teachings, was discreetly placed on indefinite administrative leave by Oberlin College. This action was taken after allegations of his involvement in a sexual harassment case surfaced. The college removed all references to Mahallati from its website last month.

The Department of Education's investigation into Oberlin College was prompted by a complaint alleging that the college violated the civil rights of Jewish students. The complaint claimed that the college allowed Mahallati to express support for Hamas and assign credit for writing anti-Israel pieces.

Interestingly, Mahallati's previous employment was at Columbia University, another institution currently under investigation for alleged antisemitism and violent rhetoric. This raises questions about a potential pattern of such behavior in academic institutions.

Mahallati, now 71, was reportedly involved in a sexual abuse scandal during his time at Columbia University. Allegedly, he offered high grades to a young female student in exchange for sexual favors. At the time, Mahallati was married and had a son. The student reported the abuse to the school authorities and later sued both Mahallati and the university, claiming that he attempted to tarnish her academic and professional reputation after she exposed his actions.

The question arises as to how Mahallati, despite his involvement in a sexual abuse scandal, managed to secure a position at Oberlin College. Did the administration overlook his past, or were they simply indifferent? This situation points to a broader pattern of discrimination and sexual abuse in academic institutions, issues that are often highlighted by liberal thought leaders.

The recent conflict in Gaza has brought these issues to the forefront, revealing a need for a comprehensive investigation by the Department of Education. The professors and administrators who have been in the news recently are likely just the tip of the iceberg.

If these institutions fail to address these issues internally, the government should consider cutting off grants that contribute to their substantial endowments. This may be the only way to ensure that these institutions take the necessary steps to rectify these issues.
