In a recent interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, former President Donald Trump addressed allegations that he would misuse power for political retribution if he were to regain the presidency.

Trump, currently leading the GOP, firmly stated that he would not act as a dictator, except on his first day in office to implement policies he deems crucial.

The conversation took place in Davenport, Iowa, where Hannity questioned Trump on the media's focus on his potential misuse of power. Hannity asked, "You are promising America tonight you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody."

To which Trump responded, "Except for day one." When asked to clarify, Trump stated, "I want to close the border and I want to drill, drill, drill." Hannity then affirmed, "That's not retribution." Trump reiterated his stance, "He says, 'You're not gonna be a dictator, are you?' I said, 'No, no, no. Other than day one. We're closing the border and we're drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I'm not a dictator.'"

The line of questioning was prompted by continuous assertions from mainstream media and Democratic officials that the 45th president would seek revenge against his political adversaries if he were to return to the White House in 2025. This is in light of Trump being indicted by what he refers to as Biden's weaponized Justice Department.

Trump has made his numerous indictments a focal point on the campaign trail, criticizing President Biden, the Department of Justice, prosecutors, and the federal bureaucracy. He has also vehemently accused the justice system of targeting his supporters.

During a campaign event in National Harbor, Maryland, in March, Trump assured his supporters, "I am your retribution." He further stated, "In 2016, I declared, 'I am your voice,'" as reported by the New York Times. "Today, I add: I am your warrior. I am your justice. And for those who have been wronged and betrayed, I am your retribution."
