The charges against him include four misdemeanors related to his presence at the U.S. Capitol building on January 6. The arrest took place while Massaquoi and his pregnant wife, Charlotte, were returning from the premiere of the Daily Wire's film, 'Lady Ballers.'
According to a fundraising page on GiveSendGo, set up to support Massaquoi's legal defense, Charlotte was informed that the charges were linked to the events of January 6. However, she was not provided with an arrest warrant. "Siaka was taken to Monterey Park Jail where he stayed overnight and was told that he was being charged for four misdemeanors pertaining to his presence outside of the Capital Building in Washington, D.C. on January 6th," the site reported.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Massaquoi has had a run-in with the FBI. His home was raided by the agency three years ago, but no charges were filed until now. The GiveSendGo statement highlighted the family's ordeal, stating, "This family has been through so many ups and downs, a circus would be a more appropriate term for the turmoil and unnecessary display of government overreach that they have had to endure."
Massaquoi took to social media platform X to share a video from January 6, 2021, showing him assisting police in directing people out of the Capitol. He captioned the video, "Witness why I was raided 2 years ago and recently arrested and charged Nov 30th 2023 almost 3 years later."
The actor's arrest has sparked outrage among conservative circles. Fellow conservative actress Gina Carano expressed her support for Massaquoi on X, decrying his arrest as "political persecution." She criticized the authorities' priorities, stating, "Like they don’t have enough pedophiles, sex traffickers, rapists and murderers to go after but what do they choose to spend their time doing? What are their priorities?? Harassing a peaceful protester on Jan 6th."
Carano further praised Massaquoi, saying, "@_SiakaMassaquoi is an incredible human being, what is happening to him is disturbing and WRONG. Enough already, we shouldn’t be having to try this hard to defend ourselves from our own government! It’s sickening."
Seth Dillon of The Babylon Bee also voiced his concern over Massaquoi's arrest, describing it as political persecution. He urged his followers on X to support Massaquoi's legal defense fund.
Jeremy Boreing from the Daily Wire echoed these sentiments, stating, "Siaka is a good man and a huge talent. The FBI arresting a man at the airport three years after the event - and after raiding his house and not charging him already - and then only charging him with misdemeanors is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever heard."
Tech mogul Elon Musk also weighed in on the matter, succinctly stating, "This has gone too far."
