In a move that could easily be mistaken for satire, the Biden administration, led by the Department of Homeland Security's Alejandro Mayorkas, has issued a new directive to Customs and Border Protection agents.

The order? To use correct pronouns when dealing with illegal immigrants crossing the Southern Border. This latest policy has been met with criticism, with many arguing that it is a misguided priority amid the ongoing border crisis.

The United States is currently grappling with an influx of illegal immigrants, with over 1.7 million individuals evading capture. Additionally, the past year has seen 169 encounters with individuals on the FBI terror watch list. Despite these alarming figures, the focus of the administration appears to be on avoiding "misgendering" illegal immigrants rather than addressing the border crisis.

The Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project shared the news via Twitter, stating, "We just obtained CBP documents directing personnel to only use woke language when encountering individuals invading the United States." This revelation has been met with incredulity and concern, with critics arguing that the administration's priorities are misplaced.

Mayorkas's directive goes beyond pronoun use. It instructs agents to disregard biological differences between sexes and instead focus on an individual's "preferred gender" identity. Furthermore, agents are instructed not to refer to being LGBTQI+ as a 'choice' or 'lifestyle.'

The directive has raised concerns about the government's priorities, particularly in light of the ongoing border crisis. In October, it was reported that Customs and Border Protection agents had encountered 169 individuals on the FBI's terror watch list over the past year. This figure does not include those who were encountered at ports of entry, which totaled 564, slightly higher than the 538 encounters in fiscal year 2019.

The watch list, officially known as the Terrorist Screening Dataset, is a U.S. database containing information on known or suspected terrorists and their affiliates. The CBP has admitted that encounters with individuals on this list have reached a "very uncommon" level, highlighting the critical work of CBP agents and officers.

The DHS statement reads, "Encounters of watchlisted individuals at our borders are very uncommon, underscoring the critical work CBP Agents and Officers carry out every day on the front lines. DHS works tirelessly to secure our borders through a combination of highly trained personnel, ground and aerial monitoring systems, and robust intelligence and information-sharing networks."
