Virginia Democrat Rep. Jennifer Wexton Issues Emotional SHOCKING Announcement...

Wexton, aged 54, made the announcement through a press statement on Monday, revealing that her medical diagnosis had been revised from Parkinson's Disease to Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy. The Democratic representative had initially shared her Parkinson's diagnosis in April, acknowledging that she was aware of the challenges that lay ahead. She stated that she had been managing "those challenges through consistent treatments and therapies."

However, Wexton admitted that her progress in managing her symptoms had not been as successful as she had hoped. She noted a disparity in her experience compared to the other women in her Parkinson's support group. "I sought out additional medical opinions and testing, and my doctors modified my diagnosis to Progressive Supra-nuclear Palsy — a kind of ‘Parkinson's on steroids,'" she elaborated.

The Virginia representative emphasized her belief in honesty as a crucial value in public service, acknowledging that her new diagnosis was a difficult one to accept. She explained that there is "no ‘getting better’ with PSP" and that while she intends to "continue treatment options" to manage her symptoms, the treatments "don't work as well" with her new diagnosis as they did for her Parkinson's diagnosis.

Expressing her disappointment, Wexton said, "I'm heartbroken to have to give up something I have loved after so many years of serving my community." She further stated that considering her health prognosis, she had decided not to seek re-election once her term ends, choosing instead to spend time with her family and loved ones.

Reflecting on her career, Wexton admitted that her retirement "was clearly not the way" she had envisioned it when she decided to run for Congress. She expressed her gratitude for the people she had met and the challenges they had faced, and how she had made a difference in her community.

Wexton, who first assumed office in 2019 after defeating then-incumbent GOP Representative Barbara Comstock of Virginia for her House seat, defended her seat in 2022 against Republican candidate Hung Cao, securing 53% of the vote. She revealed that her initial Parkinson's diagnosis primarily affected her speech and balance.

The Democratic representative maintained a positive outlook, stating, "I'm doing well. I've got a positive attitude, and I've got the strong support of so many family, friends and loved ones."

Wexton's impending retirement presents an opportunity for both Republicans and Democrats to secure a district that has traditionally swung between the two parties.
