In a dramatic turn of events, an Ohio murder suspect was fatally shot during an attempted burglary in Georgia on Thursday. The suspect, identified as Michael James Brooks II from Columbus, Ohio, was accused of murdering a 77-year-old woman in Ohio. Following the attempted burglary, he was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital with two gunshot wounds. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) reported that deputies were alerted to a burglary at a residence around 2 a.m. on Thursday. Brooks, allegedly armed with a knife, was confronted by the homeowner in the basement. The homeowner, who was armed with a firearm, reportedly warned Brooks before shooting him, as reported by Fox News. The homeowner then strategically positioned himself on the second floor above the stairs, where Brooks was shot a second time. "There, he took his stand as the suspect made his way up to the second floor. [He] made the comment, something to the effect of, 'You're going to have to kill me,' when the resident fired a second shot," Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb explained. "At that point, they actually still struggled with him [as they] took him into custody." Upon his release from the hospital, Brooks is set to face multiple charges, including burglary, home invasion, and theft, according to authorities. Furthermore, Brooks is also expected to be charged with murder in Ohio for the alleged killing of Emily Foster, 77, during another home invasion that occurred on Sept. 9 in Columbus, Ohio. Columbus police reported that Brooks allegedly stabbed Foster to death just a day after his release from Franklin County Jail. Weir believes that Brooks' parole had ended, and that he was out on bond before the fatal stabbing. Brooks has a lengthy criminal record, having served time in prison for aggravated robbery, robbery, receiving stolen property, and felony fleeing on aggravated assault, according to the network. In addition to the charges, a stolen Ford truck was discovered at the crime scene in Georgia, which Brooks allegedly carjacked in Kettering, Ohio. Fayette County investigators reported that Brooks had approached several homes in the Georgia neighborhood, and the targeted home appears to have been chosen randomly. Authorities are currently investigating any potential connections between Brooks' activities in Georgia and Ohio, as reported by Fox News.
