Former House Speaker and current California Representative Nancy Pelosi has criticized former President Donald Trump for his alleged role in inciting the riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

During an interview on MSNBC, Pelosi responded to Trump's recent comments blaming her for the violence, stating that he was projecting responsibility onto others. She accused Trump of instigating an insurrection and assaulting the Constitution and Democracy.

Pelosi also claimed that she and Senator Chuck Schumer had repeatedly urged Trump to send National Guard troops to the Capitol to quell the violence. She expressed disbelief that troops were turned down while Trump supporters were attacking the Capitol, fighting the police, and threatening her and Vice President Mike Pence's lives. Pelosi called for an intervention in the form of the 2024 election, which she believes Democrats must win.

However, last year, House Republicans raised doubts about the findings of the Democratic House Select Committee investigating the January 6th incident.

They also highlighted Pelosi's rejection of calls for additional troops at the Capitol. The Republican report emphasized a lack of preparation, training, and staffing as contributing factors to the violence.

Recently, House Republicans released their report on the incident, which included text and email messages that the Committee had ignored. The report criticized the Democratic leadership and Capitol Police leadership for prioritizing the "optics" of the National Guard and armed officers over security concerns. Republicans also pointed out that the National Guard had been called in the past to address BLM/Antifa riots.

Representative Jim Banks accused Pelosi of playing a role in the security failures and criticized her for excluding Republicans from the Committee's investigation. He argued that the Republican report, unlike the "sham" January 6th Committee, provided useful insights to ensure the safety of the Capitol and Capitol Police officers.

The debate surrounding the January 6 incident continues, with Democrats using it as a political weapon against Trump and his supporters. They have partnered with anti-Trump Republicans to argue that the 14th Amendment disqualifies Trump from appearing on future ballots. However, their efforts have thus far been unsuccessful.
