Candace Craig, 44, and Salia Hardy, 19, are accused of killing 71-year-old Margaret Craig in late May at a home in Landover. Police were alerted to the situation on June 2 when a 911 caller expressed concern for Margaret Craig's welfare.
Upon arriving at the home, officers were allowed access by Candace Craig, who answered the door. When they entered the basement, they immediately detected the smell of decomposition.
Based on evidence gathered at the home and multiple interviews, police believe that Candace Craig murdered her mother on May 23, 2023, and that Hardy helped her mother attempt to dispose of the remains the following day.
The motive for the killing remains unclear and is under investigation. Candace Craig is facing charges of first and second-degree murder, while Hardy is charged with accessory after the fact. Both women are currently in custody.

Patricia Ann Ricks, 72, was charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse with serious injury after investigators determined that the girl was beaten so severely by her grandmother that she died from her injuries.
