According to a recent poll by Rich Baris' Big Data, former President Donald Trump is the leading GOP candidate for the 2024 nomination nationally and even leads Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in his home state.

The poll surveyed 1,236 primary voters from May 31 through June 2, with 507 of those polled being Republicans, 500 being Democrats, and the remaining balance not included in the final tally. Trump holds 52.5 percent of likely GOP voters in Florida, while DeSantis trails with 32.6 percent.

Other potential candidates, including Mike Pence, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, and Chris Christie, all polled below 2.4 percent, with 3.1 percent of those surveyed being unsure or having no opinion.

Baris provided commentary on Twitter, noting that Trump leads in the Panama City area, from Liberty to Escambia, while DeSantis leads in Leon and Gadsden. The Orlando/Central Atlantic region was a statistical tie, but Trump leads everywhere else, including a 60.4 percent to 25.3 percent lead in the Miami/Gold Coast region.

Trump has consistently led DeSantis in polling since announcing his intention to run for a second term in November 2022. DeSantis only recently announced his presidential campaign but has been giving indications of a presidential run for months. A recent Echelon Insights poll showed Trump surging ahead of all other candidates with 59 percent support to DeSantis' 34 percent.

After DeSantis made his official announcement during a Twitter Space, he gained a 2 percent bounce in polling, though that was within the 4 percent margin of error. As the 2024 GOP nomination race heats up, it remains to be seen if DeSantis can close the gap with Trump and emerge as a serious contender.
