National Security Council spokesman John Kirby faced social media criticism after responding to a question regarding President Biden's alleged corruption.

During a discussion on foreign policy, New York Post reporter Steven Nelson cited a poll indicating that 53% of Americans, including a quarter of Democrats, believe that Biden was involved in an "illegal influence peddling scheme" with his son Hunter during his time as Vice President.

Nelson asked Kirby, "So, what do you say to the majority of Americans who believe that the president is himself corrupt?" Kirby appeared taken aback and initially responded with "Wow," before stating that the President had denied the claims and that the FBI had addressed the whistleblower issue. Social media criticized Kirby's response and apparent frustration for ignoring the question and the ongoing investigation into the Biden family.

Radio host Buck Sexton questioned what the Chinese Communist Party expected in return for funneling millions of dollars to Hunter Bid. At the same time, le writer Jeff Carlson noted that Biden had only denied involvement in his son's business deals, which was proven false. Former congressional candidate David Giglio sarcastically agreed with Kirby's response, adding facepalm and clown emojis.

Writer Kate Kisset reminded readers of Kirby's comments on the U.S.'s withdrawal from Afghanistan, which resulted in the loss of 13 Marines, the maiming of hundreds more, and the abandonment of Americans, allies, and Afghans who had helped the U.S. Kisset quoted Kirby's statement from April 7, 20: "For all this talk of chaos, I just didn't see it. Not from my perch. At one point during the evacuation, an aircraft took off full of people, Americans and Afghans alike, every 48 minutes. And not one single mission was missed."

National Mouth editor Tim Young accused the Biden administration of thinking that the public was stupid after quoting the exchange. The question followed the House Oversight Committee's investigation into a possible criminal scheme between Biden's family and foreign nationals to influence policy decisions. Additionally, an IRS whistleblower allegedly disclosed efforts to slow-roll the investigation into Hunter Biden's finances.
