Reports suggest that former Vice President Mike Pence is set to announce his presidential bid next week, with an event scheduled in Iowa on June 7th and the release of a video.

This move would pit Pence against former President Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP primary field. Pence previously served as Vice President alongside Trump and ran for re-election with him in the 2020 contest, ultimately losing to Democrats Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Before this, Pence served as Indiana governor and lawmaker in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Pence's announcement comes after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his White House bid last week. Other contenders include Nikki Haley, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during a portion of Trump's tenure, Vivek Ramaswamy, Larry Elder, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina. Polls indicate that Trump leads the pack of GOP presidential and potential candidates, with DeSantis in second place.

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and current North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum are reportedly expected to announce their White House bids next week. The first Republican primary debate is scheduled for August.

On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden is running for re-election, which could result in a rematch of the 2020 election in 2024 if he and Trump secure their respective party's presidential nominations. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson also run in the Democratic primary.

It is worth noting that Biden, who is already the oldest President in American history, would be 86 by the end of a second term. On the other hand, Trump would be 82 by the end of his term if elected in 2024.
