Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his wife bought the luxury, three-room coastal penthouse apartment in 2013. However, Russia decided ten years of ownership was enough. Business Insider reported that Russian state media TASS said the sale will go towards Russia's so-called "special military operation."

The luxury apartment sits near the Black Sea coastal resort town of Livadiya. The couple, however, never lived there and never had the pleasure of enjoying their coastal vacation property. After the purchase, they were doing renovations. Then, in 2014, the illegal annexation occurred.

According to Firstpost and Russian media, the apartment was worth about $800,000.
According to Business Insider, Crimean State Council officials voted to nationalize the apartment and sell it for their profit to put towards war efforts. Russian media outlet TASS reported that the money from the sale will go towards:

"Financing the special military operation as well as providing aid to the families of the servicemen that [were] killed in action and the families of the servicemen that [were] called up as part of a partial military mobilization."
In a video message released Thursday, Kremlin-backed Crimean governor Sergey Aksyonov announced the sale. He also told the decision to nationalize almost 60 other properties that belong to Ukrainian public figures.
Aksyonov said, "Enemies of Russia won't be making money in Russian Crimea." Aksyonov continued, "Crimea will regain rights for [a] number of properties, including a building in Simferopol that belongs to the banned Crimean Tatar parliament [as] well as Olena Zelenskyys' flat."
