Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania participated in a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Tuesday, which focused on the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and the ongoing bailouts provided to financial institutions by the United States government.

During his allotted time to question the witness, Fetterman struggled with his speech due to auditory processing issues resulting from his stroke, making it challenging to communicate effectively.

Fetterman began his questioning by criticizing the witness' colleagues for going to Hawaii after the collapse of their bank. He cited an article in Fortune magazine that reported that the second-largest bank in U.S. history had collapsed and chose to go to Hawaii. Fetterman expressed his disbelief at the situation, stating that he and his family had never been to Hawaii and that he had never "crashed a bank."

When the witness denied allegations that the U.S. government's readiness to bail out big banks was a "running joke" in the profession, Fetterman responded by asking whether banks believed they would not be bailed out now after being bailed out in the past. He then questioned the witness on whether it was not outrageous that, regardless of their performance, banks were made whole by taxpayers.

Fetterman's spokesperson, Joe Calvello, stated to Fox News, explaining that the senator continues to have auditory processing issues due to the effects of his stroke. Calvello also criticized those who have criticized Fetterman's health challenges, suggesting they are "just shouting into the wind."
