The Post Millennial reports that Governor DeSantis suggested he would build a border wall and use the U.S. military to go after Mexican drug cartels.
The situation at the southern border has worsened under the Biden Administration. Border Patrol agents say they need to be more staffed and are overwhelmed by all the work put on them. However, DeSantis’ claim that he would help fix things at the border drew cheers from the crowd who wanted to listen to his speech.
A reporter asked DeSantis:
May 14, 2023
“Would you build the wall, and [would] you use the military to go after Mexican drug cartels?”. The Governor replied, “Yes, and yes.”

DeSantis carried on with his answer by saying:
“I’ve said [publicly] that I’ve always supported the wall,” and “just because it’s such a big border, you can have [border] patrol, but you’re never gonna be able to have enough.”

He suggested that without a border wall, the cartels would have free reign to send their people wherever they wanted. This move would only make the illegal drug problem in the United States much worse than it already is. It is something that Governor DeSantis is trying to put his foot down on.

DeSantis continued, “If Joe Biden wants to get serious about that, [give] me a call.”
He also pointed out that he could adapt quickly when a hurricane hit Florida. He said that he assembled a team and could get things done without the red tape and bureaucracy that seems to cause so many problems for federal responses to various issues.
DeSantis continued in his remarks:
“We also have to understand these cartels are running the show,” and “They run the government down there, it’s [totally] corrupt, but they are running people into our country, and they are running massive amounts of Fentanyl into our country, killing tens of thousands of Americans.”

The Florida Governor went after the media for questioning why he should care about the border crisis as the Governor of a state not along the border. He noted that cartels bringing drugs to the country impact people regardless of which state they live in.
He concluded his thoughts on this by saying:
“The idea that we just absorb this with impunity, without [doing] anything response is wrong.”
