Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has called for the resignation of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), citing her prolonged absence from office due to illness.

Feinstein, set to turn 90 next month, has been sidelined since contracting shingles earlier this year, leading some Democratic lawmakers to call for her resignation.

However, Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi of California has criticized the calls for resignation, stating that she has never seen an ill male senator targeted in such a manner.

Ocasio-Cortez made her statement on the Bluesky social media platform, declaring that Feinstein "should retire" and that criticisms of her stance as "anti-feminist" are unfounded.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that Feinstein's refusal to retire or return to work is causing harm to the judiciary, where reproductive rights are being stripped away. She noted that this failure means Democrats can only pass GOP-approved nominees during this crucial window.

Feinstein, who has served in the U.S. Senate for over three decades, announced in February that she will not seek re-election in 2024. In a statement last month, Feinstein explained that her return to Washington had been delayed due to continued complications related to her shingles diagnosis.

She intends to return as soon as possible once her medical team advises that it is safe for her to travel. In the meantime, she remains committed to her job and will continue to work from home in San Francisco.
