At a congressional hearing on Thursday, Democratic Representative Cori Bush of Missouri expressed her disapproval of Republicans' interpretation of the Second Amendment.

She argued that they prioritize "toys" over lives and favor the U.S. having an even higher share of the world's gun supply. In her words, this is a "perverted view of the Second Amendment."

"We will not succumb to the nihilist, insurrectionist view of the Second Amendment. We will not allow the apologists for gun violence to win. We will double down on a public health response to the public health emergency that is gun violence in our country," the lawmaker declared.

"Students being murdered at their desks is not enough for them to value lives over toys. Republicans want the U.S. to have an even higher share of the world's gun supply. They don't want common-sense regulations on gun ownership. Their perverted view of the Second Amendment compels them to argue against reasonable restrictions," Cori continued.

In response, radio host and Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch expressed confusion, questioning what an "insurrectionist view of the Second Amendment" is. Attorney Kostas Moros affirmed Bush's statement, asserting that the Second Amendment exists as a guard against tyranny. “To argue otherwise is completely ahistorical," he added.

Bush then recounted her experience with gun violence, noting that an "abusive partner" fired shots at her in her early twenties. "My experience is not an anomaly," she said. "It is one too many survivors of gun violence know all too well." According to Bush, this is why Republicans need to recognize the importance of common-sense regulations on gun ownership and value lives over toys.
