Fox News reports that this controversial pill has been in focus in several states.

Several of those states have banned or are in the process of banning abortion pills within their borders. The Governor of Massachusetts has spoken with pharmacies in the state and has reminded them that they MUST stock up on the controversial abortion pill.

Fox News reports that this comes as a federal judge in Texas is looking at a lawsuit that would overturn federal approval for the drug that has existed for decades. Some Democrats and liberals fear that this would mean the abortion pill might not be available to them going forward. If true, there would be fewer medical pill abortions performed in the country, which is terrifying for some Democrats and liberals.

Democrat Gov. Maura Healey issued a statement related to this situation in which she addressed pharmacies in the state and said that they must keep “a continuous, sufficient supply of all family planning medications, including mifepristone, misoprostol, emergency contraception, and contraceptive prescriptions.”

Healey stated that Massachusetts would protect access to abortion in the state forever.

Healey said in a statement:

“At a time when states are rushing to ban medication abortion and some pharmacies are irresponsibly restricting access to it, we are reminding Massachusetts pharmacies that they have an obligation to provide critical reproductive health medications.”

Fox News reports that using the abortion pill is the most common way women end pregnancies in the United States. Massachusetts passed a law in 2020 that expands access to the abortion pill to more people than might otherwise have had access to it.

If U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk rules against the Food and Drug Administration, the pill may be pulled from store shelves nationwide. However, it is still being determined exactly how long it will take for that kind of thing to happen.

Fox News reports that more than a dozen states banned abortion after the Supreme Court ruled against the long-standing principles of Roe v. Wade last year.

Governor Healey said that if they yield to the other side, they will “strip pregnant people of their agency and rights and will violate the responsibility of pharmacies and pharmacy departments to provide critical healthcare services.” That is not something that she will go along with, and she will take every step that she possibly can to make sure abortion is protected in the entire state of Massachusetts, including using abortion pills whenever they want.
