Climate Change Skeptics Rejoice As UN Report On Impending Doom Is Mocked

The New York Times reported that the panel's report revealed that global average temperatures would rise to 1.5 degrees above preindustrial levels during the first half of the 2030s. This is significant because the nations of the world agreed in the 2015 Paris climate agreement to "pursue efforts" to keep global warming below this level. The report warned of dire weather events that could result from this rise in temperature, such as heat waves, flooding, drought, crop failure, and species extinction.

"It says that global average temperatures are estimated to rise 1.5? above preindustrial levels sometime around ‘the first half of the 2030s,’ as humans continue to burn coal, oil and natural gas," the New York Times reported. "That number holds a special significance in global climate politics: Under the 2015 Paris climate agreement, virtually every nation agreed to ‘pursue efforts’ to hold global warming to 1.5?. Beyond that point, scientists say, the impacts of catastrophic heat waves, flooding, drought, crop failures and species extinction become significantly harder for humanity to handle."

However, some Twitter users were skeptical of the report, with National Review contributor Pradheep Shanker writing that he would "believe environmentalists truly believe this as soon as they start demanding we build every nuclear reactor we possibly can to avert this crisis."

American Spectator published Melissa McKenzie joked, "Any minute now!" while journalist Kimberly Morin opined that "EVERY single prediction the Climate Cult has made has been WRONG." Combat veteran and author Sean Parnell tweeted, "Climate apocalypse has been 5-10 years away for the last 70 years. These Radical Greens are crazy," Author Carol Roth quipped, "Quick- everyone jump on their private jets to discuss this *immediately*!"

Conversely, others advocated for more action from the Biden Administration to combat climate change. Youth Victory Fund founder Elijah Manley tweeted, "Because we’re ran by psychopaths, we won’t do anything and the consequences will be severe for all," and Author Nolen Gertz wrote, "very distressing to see all the replies saying ‘We've heard this before but we're not dead yet!’"

MSNBC Daily columnist James Downie argued, "One party doesn't believe in climate change, and the other party's president just signed off on the equivalent of ‘adding 1.7 million cars to the road.’ Cool," while Teen Vogue writer Lexi Mcmenamin commented, "good thing our president just completely backtracked on popular will and approved an oil and gas project in Alaska right next to an indigenous community that specifically rejected it!"

In response, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urged that "the climate time bomb is ticking" and "humanity is on thin ice, and the ice is melting fast." He argued that temperatures had risen more quickly in the past 50 years than in the past 2,000 and that humans are responsible for virtually all global warming during the last 200 years.
