Democrats are showing their real belief in some of the latest polling about the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine.

At least some Democrats now feel comfortable admitting that they support Palestinians over the Jews in Israel.

The Post Millennial reports that while many elected Democrats report being “pro-Israel,” their voters do not align with this viewpoint. A recent Gallup poll on the matter found that 49 percent of Democrats say that their sympathies lie with the Palestinians.

That compares to just 38 percent that say their sympathies are with the Jews in Israel. That significantly differs from what their elected politicians often say about themselves. It gives many a reason to pause and wonder if Democrats truly support the Jews in Israel or if they are blowing hot air.

This polling puts Democrats out on a ledge by themselves. Gallup conducted the same poll among Independents and found that 32 percent had sympathies for the Palestinians, but 49 percent said they supported the Israelis. Republicans were also polled on this question, and it was found that 78 percent backed the Israelis, and just 11 percent threw their support behind the Palestinians.

This divergence makes it challenging to have an authentic dialogue on the issue so everyone can get on board. Many say one thing when elected to office, but their voters may feel entirely different. That is something worthy of note because many politicians bank on knowing their voters well, and they appear to be wildly out of step with where their voters are on this one.

If the polling on this doesn’t change soon, many Democrat politicians might find themselves on the wrong side of an issue as far as their voters are concerned. We'll have to wait and see what they decide to do.
