For the second time in weeks, a Canadian pastor was detained after expressing his opposition to drag queen storytime events at public libraries.

On Wednesday, 36-year-old Derek Reimer, a pastor, was taken into custody and accused of violating an order that forbade him from being within 200 meters of any gatherings associated with the LGBTQ community, according to a representative from the Calgary Police Service who spoke with Fox News Digital.

On March 2, Reimer was taken into police custody due to an event on February 25 in which three individuals physically removed him from the Seton Library. The cause of this was his protest against the Calgary Public Library's Reading with Royalty program, which involved local drag performers reading to children.

Reimer was accused of one disturbance and one mischief charge, as well as six harassment charges as per the city's public conduct bylaw. Penalties for each charge can reach up to $10,000 and six months in jail if the payment cannot be made, as noted by Livewire Calgary.

A video captured the arrest of Reimer in the parking lot of the Signal Hill Library in Calgary. Police were seen restraining him and then dragging him to the police car. People at the scene objected to how he was being treated and asked whether he had even been within 200 meters of the event. His court hearing is scheduled for Friday, and he is currently in detention.

The Calgary City Council has since revised a bylaw and introduced a new one in response to increased protests at drag events. The new Safe and Inclusive Access Bylaw prohibits protests within 100 meters of a recreation facility or library entrance, while the current public behavior bylaw now includes the term "intimidation." Some councilors have raised concerns about how the new bylaw was passed.

Pastor Artur Pawlowski, who made international headlines for keeping his Calgary church open during the pandemic, told Fox News Digital that Reimer's arrests indicate the government's "open hatred toward Christianity." He also condemned the drag queen storytime event as a "sick, twisted perversion," adding that "an adult man who dresses as a woman in a sexual manner and has the urge to do that in front of little children is a pervert, end of story. I've warned Canadians for a very long time — and I'm warning Americans, as well — that you will be ruled by what you tolerate."
