Kimond L. Cyrus, a 39-year-old New York man, appeared in court after his arrest on Thursday to be arraigned on murder charges related to the death of a bodega worker on March 3 of this year.

The New York Post states that Cyrus has been dubbed the “hazmat killer” for the actions that he has allegedly taken against his victims. Reports are that this killer wore a full-body white Tyvek suit during a series of robberies he allegedly committed in the New York City area. This ultimately led to an alleged shooting of 67-year-old Queens native Seung Choi at the Daona Gourmet Deli, according to the Post Millennial.

Cyrus was initially released after his arrest on Thursday, but he was taken into custody after his arraignment, and he pled not guilty to a charge of first-degree murder.

ABC News reports that prosecutors allege Cyrus shot Choi due to a botched robbery attempt. They reported that the suspect entered the deli and brandished a firearm. They also report that he allegedly held the weapon to a customer’s head. He then allegedly let the customers in the deli go, but he demanded that Choi turn over the money from the bodega.

The Post Millennial reports that prosecutors in the case say that the suspect began a 10-day robbery spree on February 27 and ended on the day of Choi’s death.

Detectives on the case reviewed mountains of surveillance videos to narrow down who they believed committed the crimes in question here. Police were later able to recover a vast number of things from the crime scene that tied Cyrus in with the crimes in question here. Therefore, police are confident that they have the right man when it comes to who they are attempting to track down for these crimes.
