Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer from New York has demanded that Fox News prevents Tucker Carlson from airing further video footage of the January 6 riot at the Capitol building.

This comes after Republican Representative Kevin McCarthy of California, the Speaker of the House, provided Carlson with over 41,000 hours of video footage of the riot, as reported by Axios. It was previously believed that the amount of footage was only 14,000 hours.

Schumer accused Carlson of manipulating viewers on his show, stating, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anchor treat the American people and American Democracy with such disdain. And he’s going to come back tonight with another segment. Fox News should tell him not to.”

Carlson aired footage on Monday evening that showed Capitol Police officers escorting one of the protestors, known as the "QAnon shaman," through the building. He also showed footage of Republican Senator John Hawley of Missouri being escorted with other members of Congress from the Capitol, claiming that the January 6 Committee selectively edited it to target Hawley.

During a CNN appearance on Thursday and in a Wednesday letter, Schumer demanded that Murdoch take action concerning Fox News' coverage of former President Trump's attempts to challenge the 2020 election results. Media sources on the left, such as Politico and the Daily Caller, harshly rebuked Speaker McCarthy for giving the video to Carlson.

Schumer stated that when people do not believe that elections are fair, it can mark the beginning of the end of Democracy. It is worth noting that Democrats forced votes in the House of Representatives and Senate on whether to uphold objections to Ohio’s electoral votes in the 2004 election by then-Democratic Representative Stephanie Tubbs-Jones of Ohio and Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer of California on January 6, 2005.

House Democrats also attempted to object to the results of the 2000 and 2016 elections on January 6, 2001, and January 6, 2017, respectively but did not have the support of a Senator, according to the Congressional Record.

Fox News has not yet responded to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
