Renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg recently spoke out about the alarming rise of antisemitism in the United States, stating that he has not witnessed it so "overt" since Nazi Germany.

In an interview with late-night host Stephen Colbert, Spielberg expressed his surprise at the current open hatred towards Jewish people.

"Antisemitism has always been there — it’s either been just around the corner and slightly out of sight but always lurking, or it has been much more overt like in Germany in the ’30s," Spielberg said. "But not since Germany in the ‘30s have I witnessed antisemitism no longer lurking, but standing proud with hands on hips like Hitler and Mussolini, kind of daring us to defy it. I’ve never experienced this in my entire life, especially in this country."

Spielberg attributed the rise in antisemitism to the marginalization of non-White people, which he believes has been a growing issue since 2014-2016. "Somehow in 2014, 2015, 2016, hate became a kind of membership to a club that has gotten more members than I ever thought was possible in America. And hate and antisemitism go hand in hand; you can’t separate one from the other," he said.

The increase in antisemitic incidents has been seen nationwide, with school campuses and liberal cities such as New York City and Los Angeles particularly affected. The New York Police Department provided Fox News Digital with statistics that showed antisemitic hate crimes had spiked in the city by 300% in one month alone.

According to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a human rights group that monitors antisemitism, physical attacks on openly identifiable Orthodox Jews in New York City have reached the highest levels in decades.

"Ultra-Orthodox Jews, especially in Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn, have been beaten, spat upon, their hats torn off their heads, and cursed in a barrage of attacks over the last year," the center reported. The group also cited several antisemitic incidents on liberal campuses, as well as comments made by celebrities such as Kanye West, Whoopi Goldberg, and Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar.

As Spielberg's warning highlights the growing threat of antisemitism in the U.S., it serves as a reminder of the importance of standing up against all forms of hatred and discrimination.
