An alarming number of dead whales have been showing up on the East Coast of the United States since December 2022.

Hotair reports that 23 dead whales have washed up on the shores of the East Coast in just the last few months. This is far above the average.

Part of the scary thing related to this is that the latest dead whale is the ninth to wash up on the New Jersey shore in just this month. Hotair reports:

"A ninth dead whale has washed up on the New Jersey coastline, as conservationists and local authorities investigate the causes of an unusual number of such deaths along the US east coast."

They follow this up with the following:

"…The whale was removed from the beach on Tuesday and taken to the county landfill for a necropsy and to collect tissue samples, a spokesperson for Noaa Fisheries, part of the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, told Gothamist."

Sadly, a 10th dead whale was found just two days after that report on Rockaway Beach in Queens, NY. This beach is right along the state lines between New York and New Jersey.

The tenth whale appeared to have significant head trauma, meaning it likely collided with a boat somewhere along the line. However, all of the other recently discovered whales had different issues.

The death rate for whales this year is shaping up to be devastating for the species. Right now, the projection for 2023 is that there could be as many as 32 dead whales in the area this year.

The New York Times would like to blame both a rebounding marine mammal population and garbage and waste generated by humans.

It's not surprising to hear that the New York Times wants to blame consumerism when they look to point the finger at something to blame for the whales that have been showing up dead. Even though the move by the liberal New York Times is predictable, that doesn't make it any less disappointing. Always waving the finger at the issue of climate change is a great way to divert attention away from the real problems that exist out there. They keep things in such a narrow focus that they might not ever be able to get away from thinking that global warming is the answer to all the problems out there.
