A recent Quinnipiac University poll found that California voters, including most Democrats, do not believe Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom should run for President in 2024.

The poll revealed that 70% of California voters do not support Newsom's bid for the White House next fall, with only 22% hoping he runs for President.

The poll showed that 54% of likely Democratic voters do not want Newsom on the 2024 ticket. "A resounding thumbs down from the home team as California voters tell the Governor: if you have designs on the big job beyond Sacramento, we're not on board," said Tim Malloy, Quinnipiac University polling analyst, about the results.

While Newsom has stated that he will not run for President in 2024 if President Biden does not seek another term, he has not ruled out running in the unlikely event Biden opts out of the race.

The poll also found that only 44% of Californians approve of Newsom's performance as governor, while 45% disapprove of his handling of the position.

Meanwhile, with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., announcing that she will not seek re-election next fall, several California representatives have jumped into the race. When respondents were asked about Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., as a candidate, 31% said they had a favorable opinion of the congressman, while 30% had an unfavorable opinion of the Democrat.

Rep. Katie Porter, D-Calif., received favorable views from 30% of respondents, and just 11% had an unfavorable opinion of her. However, 59% said they had not heard enough about her to share an opinion. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., the most recent California representative to enter the Senate race, received a favorable opinion among 18% of respondents. In comparison, 11% had an unfavorable opinion, and 71% did not know enough about her.

When asked about the most pressing issues facing the state, 22% of respondents said homelessness, 17% said affordable housing, and 10% said inflation. "What worries the Golden State most? Dealing with the homeless crisis and finding a home Californians can afford to live in," said Malloy.

The poll was conducted from Feb. 23-27 with a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.
