The Post Millennial reports that Ryan stated this was his intention during an interview on Thursday.
Correspondent Jason Calvi of FOX6 News spoke with the former Speaker about where he would be when the convention takes place in Milwaukee in 2024. Ryan commented, “It depends on who the nominee is.” He added, “I’ll be here if it’s somebody not named Trump.”
Calvi then asked if he said he would not go if the nominee were Trump. Ryan clarified that this was the case and went so far as to say that it didn’t matter to him that the convention was to be held in Wisconsin when deciding if he would attend it.

The Post Millennial reports that according to Ryan’s estimation, if the GOP nominates Trump again, then they will lose. That is just his prediction, and it is not necessarily one with which everybody agrees. However, Ryan feels so confident that he doesn’t want to participate in a convention that would nominate Trump.

“It’s just that clear. We lost with him in ’18, ’20, and ’22. We know this. He will cost us another election, so I’m just excited about somebody not named Trump.”

Ryan is expressing what many in the Party feel at this time. That is that they are ready to move on from the years of Trump and would like to give another candidate a try for the next run. If that is the route that the Republican Party decides to take, Ryan feels they would have a great chance of winning the next election.

Recent ABC News/Washington Post polls suggest that even a Trump vs. Biden matchup could be a winner for the GOP. That poll showed Trump getting 48 percent support compared to 45 percent for Biden. Thus, a weakened Biden most likely be defeated regardless of who the GOP nominates. Regardless, only some people will notice whether Ryan attends the convention. He is a politician of years gone by.
