The ex-MSNBC presenter and left-leaning Keith Olbermann proclaimed that the only way to put an end to mass shootings would be through an "economic civil war" waged by U.S. blue states vs. the red states.

He declared that the only way to prevent the shootings "is to suffocate" the businesses that make money from the sale of guns and the lobbies that defend them, and "to destroy" the Republican Party that backs both.

The way to accomplish it is with Democratic states economically starving Republican states.

On Wednesday, Keith Olbermann shared his latest controversial remarks via a video on his Twitter account. As a gun control advocate, Olbermann was reacting to the recent Michigan State University shooting, which resulted in three fatalities and five injuries.

Olbermann used the shooting incident as a means to argue that our country is "owned by guns."

He made a point of emphasizing the necessity to eradicate firearms companies, organizations that support gun rights, and the GOP.

"We are owned by guns. And therefore, there is only one way to stop the mass shootings. It is to suffocate the businesses that make billions of dollars in profits off guns, to destroy the gun lobby — the death lobby — and the Republican Party that defends those lobbies and those businesses."

The proposed solution according to Obermann is: "And the only way to do that is an economic civil war. The blue states have all the money, they must starve the red states into submission, or another 600,000 Americans will be murdered in the next 10 to 12 years."

Keith Olbermann is well-known for stirring up controversy on Twitter. In December, he made news for his account being suspended for allegedly provoking Elon Musk and urging his followers to post the billionaire's private jet's location

The journalist expressed his disapproval of the media's coverage of President Biden's classified documents scandal, likening it to the Hillary Clinton emails scandal of 2016. "We’re really going to do this again? We’re really going to do Hillary Clinton’s emails again? We’re really going to do whataboutism and both sides-ism again?"
