Fighting The Unthinkable: GOP Attacks DC Plan To Let Illegal Immigrants Have THIS Right

The local Washington DC government is trying to set up a situation where illegal immigrants would be permitted to vote in local elections and that certain non-violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants would not be punished as severely as they are right now.

Republicans are concerned about all of this as they believe it will only worsen the situation at the border. Congress has special authority to reject a local D.C. law under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act to reject a local law passed by the D.C. government.

Republicans say that they will use this authority to reject the latest measures passed by local Democrats to try to allow illegal immigrants to vote and to have the penalties for crimes they may commit lessened.

Fox News says that House Republicans will take this up as early as Tuesday and that they will reject the law that would allow illegal immigrants to vote. Representative Scalise said the following on the matter: “What this resolution would do is reverse the decision by the D.C. council that would allow illegal aliens to vote,” and “As we all know, our southern border has been wide open under President Biden. Millions of people have come into our country illegally, and he continues to keep that border open.”

House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky. agreed that the law was misguided. He said the D.C. law “sends the wrong message to those seeking to come into our country illegally.”

Comer continued by saying: “The D.C. Council’s reckless decision to allow non-U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants the right to vote in local elections is an attack on the foundation of this republic.”

“This move by the Council is irresponsible and will only exacerbate the ongoing border crisis, subvert the voices of American citizens and open the door for foreign adversaries to peddle influence in our nation’s capital.”

Overall, it seems that many House Republicans are of the same mindset that D.C. has gone beyond its authority in this case and has decided that it can allow illegal immigrants to enter the country and to have the right to vote in Washington, DC.
