On Thursday, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) became heated when the House floor saw Republicans take Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) off the House Foreign Affairs Committee due to her openly antisemitic views.

Tlaib, similar to the views of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, declared that the Republicans had unjustly targeted her. As her allotted time ran out and her microphone was silenced, the Democrat was overcome with emotion and began to weep.

“You are showing who you all are,” she screamed. I will not be silent. To congresswoman Omar, I am so sorry that our country is failing you today through this chamber. You belong on that committee.”

Ayana Pressley and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with other members of the squad, expressed their support for Ilhan Omar and accused the Republicans of sexism, racism, and Islamophobia.

Ocasio-Cortez noted that the only thing consistent about the Republican Party's actions was racism and the stirring up of violence against women of color.

Omar asserted that the dispute regarding her dismissal revolved around "who can be identified as an American, and what beliefs do we need to possess in order to be seen as an American."

Omar stated that there is a perception that individuals from certain backgrounds, including immigrants, those from particular areas of the globe, those with a certain complexion, and Muslims, are viewed with suspicion.

Just prior to the vote on whether or not to remove Congresswoman Omar, Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) declared that her potential ousting was not about "revenge or retribution" but rather "accountability." Omar has made critical remarks concerning Israel and its assumed influence on Congress.

Lawler emphasized that anyone who engages in any form of anti-semitic conduct or speech ought not to be eligible to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which plays a very important part in its relationship with Israel, one of its closest allies.
