The Biden administration has been pushing electric vehicle tax incentives since the President took office, but a closer look at the lobbying efforts of one particular client reveals an alarming conflict of interest.

According to a report by the Washington Free Beacon, General Motors has paid Jeff Ricchetti, the brother of Biden confidant and White House Counselor Steve Ricchetti, $460,000 to lobby Congress and the White House for electric vehicle tax incentives.

The involvement of Jeff Ricchetti, who runs the Washington lobbying firm Ricchetti Inc., raises questions about the potential influence of the Biden administration on behalf of General Motors.

The President has used his public platform to promote the electric vehicle tax credit, even posting a photo of himself behind the wheel of a GMC Hummer EV Pickup Edition 1 on Monday.

The Ricchetti brothers have been close political allies of Biden since his days in the Senate, with Steve Ricchetti serving as a senior adviser during the 2020 presidential campaign. Steve Ricchetti has served in the Biden White House since the beginning of the administration, and Jeff Ricchetti is the brother of his political advisor.

The lobbying firm of Jeff Ricchetti was hired by General Motors to lobby for the electric vehicle tax credit in October 2019. Since then, the firm has been paid $460,000 for its efforts. The firm has also lobbied for General Motors on other matters, including the auto industry bailout and fuel economy standards.

The Ricchetti brothers have also had business ties to General Motors before the Biden administration. Jeff Ricchetti’s firm has been a registered lobbyist for General Motors since 2003, and Steve Ricchetti served on the board of directors for the automaker from 2006 to 2011.

The Campaign Legal Center, a Washington D.C.-based watchdog group, has called on the White House to take steps to ensure that the Ricchetti brothers are no longer engaging in activities that could benefit their client.

"This arrangement raises serious questions about the potential for conflicts of interest in the Biden administration," the Campaign Legal Center said in a statement. "The White House must take steps to ensure that this situation does not create any actual or perceived conflicts of interest and that the Ricchetti brothers are not using their influence to benefit their client."
