Watch: Cigar Smokers SPEAK Out Against This Proposed Tax Hike

Cigar smokers are not pleased with a New York proposal to increase the taxes on cigars from a record-high 75% to 95%.

Fox News reports that Assembly Bill A10016 has been introduced in the New York legislature and would increase the tax rate for cigars from the highest rate in the nation at 75% to an even higher 95% in the Empire State.

Aficianado Joe Gelormino criticized the bill and pointed out to Fox News that the tax rate on weed in the state is only 13% compared to the proposed 95% for cigars. Gelormino said the following on Tucker Carlson's show on Monday:

"It seems like the government will not be happy unless they have us all eating kale, drinking carrot juice and smoking weed," he continued by saying:

"They're not happy with a nice, good cigar. I mean, to tax something at 95% is absurd. They want to tax it into extinction."

Gelormino is a defense attorney and a cigar fan. According to Fox News, he told Tucker Carlson that the people that get hurt the most by laws like this are mom-and-pop cigar shops that cannot afford to deal with these wild tax hikes.

He explained this by saying: "That's who gets hurt here. Not the rich people. Because you know where they're buying their cigars? On the illegal market."

"The Cubans on the illegal market. They get the full boxes, and they're not taxed. But the average Joe that wants to enjoy a nice cigar on his porch at night with a nice glass of red wine or a nice martini, he is the one that's getting hurt."

Carlson said that he didn't understand the tax hikes. He said there is no public health emergency related to cigar smoking and questioned why the tax hike is being proposed. Gelormino responded in the following way:

"I don't know. I can't explain it. All I can explain to you is that everything we seem to enjoy, whether it's a glass of red wine, a drink, or a nice cigar, they're going to tax."

He suggested that the next wave of taxes will likely target things like red meat. He believes this is where things are headed next because the government will only stop once it has created a tax for virtually everything we love and enjoy. Unfortunately, New York is even worse about this than most other places.
