According to a report on Wednesday, the New York Post shares that Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is putting herself in the right light and staging herself as the number one choice to run in 2024 as former President Donald Trump’s running mate for Vice President.

Steve Bannon, former Trump strategist and host of the War Room podcast, told NBC News, “This is no shrinking violet; she’s ambitious - she’s not shy about that, nor should she be.” Bannon added that 48-year-old Greene sees herself as being on the “short list for Trump’s VP.” He said, “When MTG looks in the mirror, she sees a potential President smiling back.”

Another advisor of the congresswoman noted that Green’s “whole vision is to be Vice President” and that she believes she could be on the short list of potential running mates.

The New York Post notes Greene became more influential as a staunch supporter of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy in his bid for the gavel earlier this month. Green’s support during McCarthy’s campaign for speaker has paid off. McCarthy has appointed Greene to sit on two panels - Homeland Security and Oversight - where she will have a hand in the Biden administration investigation. McCarthy has also vowed to support Greene and have her back.

Although some conservative members of the House Freedom Caucus weren’t in agreement with Greene’s support of McCarthy, Bannon chimed in, saying it was a calculated risk. He told NBC, “She’s both strategic and disciplined - she made a power move, knowing it would run up hard against her most ardent crew.” “She was prepared to take the intense heat/hatred short-term for the long-term goal of being a player.”

In October, Greene told the New York Times that she and Trump had already discussed the presidential ticket and the No. 2 spot. At the time, she said, “I would be honored.” “I think the last person that the RNC or the national party wants is me as his running mate.”

Former President Trump has not made any announcement about beginning the vetting process for potential running mates.

Greene is keeping her plans close to the vest. She did not respond to inquiries made by NBC News.
