The Daily Caller reported that a Netherlands study from December 28 significantly contradicted the medical field. That contradiction is the idea that transition is supposed to assist transgender patients with their mental health. Still, many people who undergo these procedures continue to have mental struggles with their identity and other issues moving forward. It is something that transgender advocates have had a hard time explaining for a long time.
The study included 19 voluntary subjects for the study, all of whom were Dutch and all of whom had undergone cross-sex medical transitions. Researchers interviewed the subjects and recorded information about the stressors in their life, such as their dissatisfaction with their medical experience and any coping mechanisms that they have used to deal with those struggles.

The study reads in part:

“Participants frequently mentioned having maladaptive cognitions concerning gender and transition, which included having stereotypical images of men/women, focusing on gender-incongruent characteristics, and experiencing internalized transphobia.”

and
“When participants were mainly focused on gender-incongruent characteristics, they were not easily satisfied with the results of the treatments, leading to increased chances of reporting negative emotions, discomfort and/or requesting re-operations and surgical corrections.”

The researchers for this study wrote:
“When participants focused especially on gendered characteristics or had high expectations, extra operations or treatments were often sought.”
The study traced nearly all negative experiences the transgender subjects had back to what the study labeled as “internalized transphobia.” This is to say that they believe that virtually every negative experience that someone who underwent cross-sex transitions is expressed because they have transphobia in their hearts and minds.

The researchers wrote:
“Some struggled to accept being transgender, which, at times, was due to internalized transphobia or shame,” and “Other participants had difficulty accepting the gender non-conforming parts of their appearance as they wanted to fit into a stereotypical gendered ideal.”
The Daily Caller researched out to the researchers for comment on their study, but the researchers have not gotten back to the Daily Caller with any answers to their questions about their studies.
