The Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker announced that he would punish law enforcement officers that refuse to enforce his ban on semiautomatic weapons.
The governor has signed a bill to ban semiautomatic weapons in the State, which is not well-received by state officials.
Sheriff Nicholas M. Petitgout stated, “Part of my duties that I accepted upon being sworn into office was to protect the rights provided to all of us in the Constitution.”

The Blaze added that he stated, “One of those enumerated rights is the right of the people to keep and bear arms provided under the 2nd Amendment. Therefore, as the custodian of the jail and chief law enforcement official for McDonough County, neither myself nor my office will be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State. Nor will we be arresting or law-abiding housing individuals that have been charged solely with non-compliance of this Act.”

Petitgout is not alone in his refusal to enforce the new law. Thirteen other offices have announced that they will not enforce an unconstitutional law.

Others believe that banning guns is not going to keep the peace. It opens the door for more violence to come into society because nothing is in place to prevent it. The state Republicans are also against the law because they know it violates the Second Amendment.
