Bill Gates, the billionaire founder of Microsoft, responded to criticism of certain moves he has taken in recent years to purchase farmland and push the COVID-19 vaccine as hard as he has.

The Blaze reports that Gates gave a wide-ranging interview in which he stated that he is not scheming the way that some might think that he is. He also said that he believes that the rich should pay a higher percentage in taxes.

The question that got the most attention from those who viewed the interview was this question posed by a reader:

“Why are you buying up so much farmland? Do you think this is a problem with billionaire wealth and how much you can disproportionally acquire?”

Gates explained the following about his farmland ownership:

“I own less than 1/4000 of the farmland in the U.S. I have invested in these farms to make them more productive and create more jobs. There isn’t some grand scheme involved. [In fact], all these decisions [are] made by a professional investment team,”

He then continued by saying:

“In terms of the very rich, I think they should pay a lot more [in] taxes and give away their wealth over time. It has been very fulfilling for me and is my full-time job,”

Gates also suggested that taxes should be raised on companies across the board to help create a better economy. Gates said that he is surprised that taxes remain unraised on corporations at this point.

There were also questions about the climate posed to Gates, and he stated the following about it:

“Climate will slow down our progress on improving the human condition, but I still believe we can avoid a terrible outcome. The pace of innovation is [really] picking up even though we won’t make the current timelines,”

Another person at the forum asked Gates about his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine. They added questions about his participation in expanding the vaccine to more and more people throughout the country.

Many in attendance felt they were all great questions and highly interesting for all involved. Not only that, but those who heard about the forum were also highly interested.
