Its Go Time: McCarthy Makes This BIG Move To Counter Pesky Dems

Speaker Kevin McCarthy is ready to knock some Democrats off their committee assignments in the House now that he is in charge.

The Daily Mail reports that McCarthy will take Representatives Eric Swalwell (D-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) off of the Intelligence Committee, and he will prevent Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from serving on the Foreign Affairs Committee.

This is similar to Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s moves when she was in charge of the House. She removed Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ) from their committee assignments at the time. Despite Republican warnings that this would lead to retaliation by the Republicans when they were in charge, Pelosi moved forward with this decision. Some Democrats want to complain about having their members kicked off of committees, but they were gleeful about it when they kicked Republicans off of their committees.

McCarthy spoke with Punchbowl News and stated:

“It’s not like it’s anything new. Remember, this is what Nancy Pelosi – this is the type of Congress she wanted to have.”

He continued:

“Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance.’”

He also stated that Swalwell lied to the American people too often and that he could not be trusted with intelligence on the Intel Committee.

It might have taken McCarthy 15 rounds of voting before he was finally elected as Speaker of the House, but he will not squander the opportunity now that he has been put in this position. He is making good on his promises and removing Democrats from the committee assignments that some seem to think they are rightfully entitled to just because they have been on those committees for some time.

In addition to all of this, Republicans intend to place their fellow members on committees. Some members receiving top billing for their committee assignments include Gosar, George Santos, and Greene.

This move will surely anger some Democrats as they rage against the kind of things that these members believe in. However, that is a problem for them to deal with and truly doesn’t matter when it comes to how Republicans will select the assignments that need to go out to their members. They will assign their people to assignments based on what they want to see done in the House, and Democrats will have to deal with it.
