As the world, and the country, push for people to go all-electric to save the planet, it’s now becoming known that they put the cart before the horse in this situation.

Electric vehicles are struggling to make it through the harsh winter storms that ravaged parts of the country. This reveals that they aren’t as reliable as people claim they are.

One Tesla Model S owner reported that his car wouldn’t charge in freezing temperatures. According to Carscoops.com, “TikTok user Domnatishow posted a short video of the incident and has more than 10,000 comments on it as of this writing. In the post, he complained that his Tesla wouldn’t charge in the cold. First, he shows us that it’s 19°F (7°C) and that he has 19 miles of range remaining.”

The video continues, showing viewers that the user is following the instructions, but to no avail. The Tesla still doesn’t charge. Over 14 hours later, the user is forced to cancel his holiday plans.

This was far from the only instance in which a person had problems with an electric vehicle. According to The Western Journal, Real Clear Science published a comprehensive report about the issues that electric vehicle owners saw during the frigid arctic temperatures. The Western Journal states, “Perhaps the biggest limitation faced by EVs was that the frigid temperatures reportedly cut the range of an EV by 40 percent or more.”

The article continues, “The report stated that people traveling long distances for the holidays often could only travel 100 to 150 miles before stopping and recharging. Not only is this inconvenient, but the short range and the time needed to stop and charge add significant time to any road trip.”

Not only did electric vehicle owners need to stop and recharge more, but they also had to wait longer for vehicles to charge. In some instances, charging time nearly doubled.

Electric vehicles are a great idea, but technology is still in the early days. The industry has a long way to go before Americans can trust these vehicles as their primary means of transportation. There are also reports of vehicles randomly breaking down during optimal weather or having charging issues.
