The January 6th special committee decided to withdraw its subpoena of former President Donald Trump as it begins to wrap up its work.

Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss, stated that the testimony of the former President was no longer necessary, according to Fox News.

Thompson put a letter out to Trump’s attorneys that stated the following:

“In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena.”

He continued with the letter by saying:

“Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena.”

Donald Trump was pleased with this decision and took to social media to express his opinions. Fox News reported that he said the following on social media:

“Was just advised that the Unselect Committee of political Thugs has withdrawn the Subpoena of me concerning the January 6th Protest of the CROOKED 2020 Presidential Election. They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court. Perhaps the FBI’s involvement in RIGGING the Election played into their decision. In any event, the Subpoena is DEAD!”

In the beginning, Trump was subpoenaed by the January 6th committee and asked to give his testimony. The January 6th committee was ready to drag in a former President in front of all of the committee to make him comment on a day for which he does not claim responsibility.

The former President believes that the January 6th committee scraped the subpoena because they know he didn’t do anything wrong. He believes that if they felt they had something on him, they would have continued to demand his testimony in front of them, but that is not what they did.

The committee is set to wrap up soon anyway. The Republicans take over the majority in Congress in a matter of weeks, and it won’t be long before they decide to dismantle the committee if it is not complete with its work by then. Thus, some feel that the committee abandoned the Trump subpoena because they knew they couldn’t get it done before the new Congress took over. Either way, the former President feels vindicated in his position.
