However, challenger Tshibaka attacked the unfair election system in her response. According to The Blaze, she tweeted, “It’s clear from the ranked choice tabulations that Sen. Lisa Murkowski has been re-elected, and I congratulate her on that,” Tshibaka said in a statement.

“The new election system has frustrated many Alaskans because it was indisputably designed as an incumbent-protection program and worked as intended.”
Murkowski was one of the few Republicans to support the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Trump backed Tshibaka but also said he’d back anyone with a pulse that ran against Murkowski.

The Rolling Stone reports, “Last year, Murkowski overcame conservative backlash after calling on President Trump to resign and saying she was questioning her future with the Republican Party days after a mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. She was the only Senate Republican up for re-election this year who voted to convict Trump at his impeachment trial last year, a move that compelled the former President to announce plans to campaign against her.”
While it’s a loss for the GOP, it’s not a heavy loss. We still have control over the house, and there are plenty of Republicans winning!
