\The San Francisco elections commission has pulled a wild one.

They fired a long-time commissioner to try to meet their racial equality goals. That's right, director John Arntz's contract was not renewed because they wanted to replace him with a minority to meet a quota. This is according to reporting from the San Francisco Chronicle.

Arntz had a five-year contract with the city before this, but the commission voted not to renew the contract. Instead, they will hire an independent recruiter to look for review applicants to fill the position. Arntz was hired in 2002, but he has now been removed from his role because the commission wants to fulfill its pledge to racial equality on the board of commissions. They are making a racist move to justify feeling like they aren't being racist.

"Our decision wasn't about your performance, but after twenty years, we wanted to take action on the City's racial equity plan and give people an opportunity to compete for a leadership position," were the words of commission president Chris Jerdonek when he wrote an e-mail to Arntz to let him know of the committee's decision. He made it explicitly clear that the committee was NOT dissatisfied with Arntz's work. They wanted to remove him to hire a minority applicant for the position.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed, who ran to promote racial equality across the commission, said that their decision, in this case, was wrong. She believes that they are politicizing hiring or firing for this particular role. Of course, that is precisely what opponents of London Breed said during the campaign, but at least she is coming around to the apparent impact of putting a racial equality plan in place now.

"You have to open up your senior leadership roles… otherwise, you get in a situation where you are waiting for someone to retire for those positions to open up," said a fellow commissioner named Cynthia Dai.

The Daily Caller reached out to the San Francisco elections commission and Arntz for comment about the situation, but they could not immediately comment on the matter. It is unclear what Arntz feels about the situation, but it appears to be a clear-cut racial discrimination case. It is hard to see how this doesn't end up before a court somewhere that can rule on the right of the commission to make this kind of move or not.
