According to a statement by former Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and reported by the DailyWire, Ryan referred to himself as a “never-again-Trumper.”

While on ABC’s “This Week” program on Sunday, hosted by co-anchor Jonathan Karl, Ryan talked about his time serving as Speaker of the House and the relationship between himself and former President Trump.

When he was part of the Trump administration, Ryan said, “I’m proud of the accomplishments of the tax reform, the deregulation, and criminal justice reform. I’m really excited about the judges we got on the bench, not just the Supreme Court, but throughout the judiciary.” “But I am a never-again-Trumper. Why? Because I want to win, and we lose with Trump.”

Ryan blames Trump for the GOP’s dismal performance in the midterm elections and warns that due to their slim majority, to pass legislation in the future, Republicans must work with the Democrats. Ryan said about the Senate election of 2022 that “we should have and could have won.”

He blamed the losses, which include the loss of seats in the House in 2018, the presidency and Senate in 2020, and now the Senate in 2022, on what he calls the “Trump factor.”

The former Speaker acknowledged Trump was instrumental in getting his base supporters engaged in the primaries, and some of the candidates he endorsed won, but it was not enough when it came to the general elections. He believes Republican voters will “move on” regarding supporting Trump.

When asked by Karl what it would mean if Trump were to win the nomination for President again, Ryan replied, “we probably, likely lose the White House. We just did in ’20, so I think we probably lose the White House with Trump, and if there’s someone not named “Trump,” my guess is we win the White House.” He added he believed Trump was “unelectable.”

Ryan shared his opinion about the Republican majority in the House by saying, “no matter what bill you’re gonna bring to the floor, it is almost impossible with that tight a majority to have just only your party passing legislation.”

“If you have such a narrow majority, it’s going to be really hard.” “Having said that, there’s nothing as unifying as a really razor-thin majority.”
