Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is leading a resolution to audit the funds allocated by Congress to assist Ukraine during its war with Russia.

House Republicans critical of United States assistance to Ukraine joined her efforts on Thursday.

Co-sponsors of the resolution include Republicans Matt Gaetz from Florida, Barry Moore from Alabama, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, and Thomas Massie of Kentucky. Representative-elect Cory Mills from Florida also appeared at a Thursday press conference with the group.

Those in favor of full Ukraine support say their colleagues are part of a “minority fringe,” according to The Hill. Other Republican lawmakers say more oversight is needed. “The resolution calls for preserving administration documents and communications related to Ukraine funding distribution,” according to The Hill.

The Biden administration sent more than $20 Billion in military assistance to Kyiv in addition to an estimated $10 billion in humanitarian aid and approximately $13 billion in economic assistance. President Biden has also called for Congress to earmark $37.7 billion in additional funding for Ukraine, as per The Hill reporting.

To support her resolution, Greene quoted House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy saying, “Republicans are not going to send a blank check to Ukraine.” Later, however, McCarthy said he supported the United States' assistance to Ukraine but favored more oversight.

Greene, known as MTG, introduced the bill as a privileged resolution. This resolution gets referred to the relevant committee, where members will have 14 business days to reject or approve it for a vote on the House floor.

If the bill is not brought up in the committee within that time frame, MTG can force a House floor vote with no committee referral. Democrats will most likely vote it down to prevent it from going to the House floor.

However, Greene is ready to reintroduce the resolution once Republicans hold the majority in Congress. She said, “I’ll introduce this resolution again, but I’ll also [be] calling for a full audit.”
